Summary

The role of microwave effect in the sterilization process minimizing risk associated with microbiologically contaminated construction materials.

Project leader: Rafał Górny Ph.D., D.Sc.

Project summary:

Objective of the project was to determine the most efficient parameters of microwave radiation, PM, which should be used in devices for non-invasive treatment of buildings, which would make this process effective biologically and economically efficient. It was assumed that there is no uniform pattern in the selection of the most effective parameters PM in order to remove microbiological contamination. Thus, to make the treatment of cleaning individual elements of construction or finishing of the contaminated microbiologically building was effective, in the first place the microorganisms responsible for the occurrence of microbiological corrosion need to be precisely qualitatively characterized, and only after such conducted "diagnosis" a microwave treatment can be performed by applying the parameters of power density and exposure time to radiation matched to the species affiliation of the microorganism among the microbiota responsible for biofouling of the purified component. Properly carried out "cleansing" by PM helps to effectively protect health, inhibit microbial contamination of building materials and destroy microbiological factor responsible for its occurrence.
